Lynne Breakell

Lynne has been a part of New Nation Church, Shrewsbury since its infancy. Raised in a Christian home, Lynne’s father pastored churches in Penzance and Shrewsbury. She realised her need of Jesus as her personal Lord and Saviour when she was eleven years old. Her faith journey has seen her through many highs and lows; God has always been faithful, even at times when Lynne has struggled with doubts and fears.

After a long nursing career, Lynne now enjoys her retirement, keeping busy volunteering in the community and supporting the church in different practical ways. Lynne particularly enjoys being outdoors often walking and absolutely awestruck at God’s beautiful and bountiful creation. Lynne also enjoys playing golf. Lynne has 3 grown-up, married children and two lovely grandchildren who she enjoys spending time with.

Rebekah Evans

Rebekah, known better as Bek’s, is one of our trustees and has been undertaking an internship with us since the beginning of 2024. She was born in West Bromwich and moved to Shrewsbury when she was 11. She was brought up in a Christian household and decided to be baptised in 2017 after completing her GCSEs. In 2020, she moved away to study at Loughborough University, where she completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology. While she was there, she got very involved in the Christian Union (CU), and she was part of the committee as the Event Evangelism Coordinator. During this time, she knew that she wanted to do more than just continue down the path with psychology and felt God was telling her to take time away from further education and processing with a career. She knew God was asking her to spend more time focusing on Him, how He sees us, who He says we are and being a servant to His work. Bek’s is excited to see all the ways that God will work through her and has in store for her as she explores what God has in line for her.

Outside of interning, you can often find Bek’s making coffee in Palmer’s Café, eating gelato and dreaming about travelling. She’s nearly always up for an adventure and a walk, especially if it is a sunny day. One of her favourite things is an early morning Sunday walk with her dad and her Golden Retriever, Trixie, and a much-needed coffee!

Alison Kelly

Alison was born and brought up in Liverpool and eventually trained there as a secondary school teacher studying maths and physics. She taught in several comprehensives with a maternity break on the birth of her daughter. When the family moved to Shropshire she worked as a teacher in Shrewsbury Prison until retirement in 2012.

Alison has been involved in many church activities beginning in her teenage years up to the present day. These have mainly focused on children’s and young adult’s ministries and discipling adults. However, it was only in 1985 that she committed her life to Jesus after attending a “Saint’s Alive” course and finally understanding the gospel message!

Looking back over her earlier years, Alison knows that the Holy Spirit was guiding her, even though she was unaware of His presence at the time. Since then, her relationship with Jesus has deepened and she is far more conscious of His Spirit’s leading.

Alison loves reading, especially detective fiction and gardening.

Paul Kelly

Paul was born and raised in Liverpool. There he met, and in 1976, married his wife Alison who is also a trustee. Shortly afterwards Paul and Alison moved to the Wirral and then to Shrewsbury in 1987. Paul has had a Christian influence throughout his life, but it was as an adult in 1986 that he gave his life to Christ after attending a 'Saints Alive' course. Since then Paul has gradually matured in his understanding of what it means to be a Christian in daily life, aided by attending various Bible study groups, the encouragement of other Christians, and regular worship.

Influenced by his involvement in voluntary youth work as a young adult, Paul eventually took up a career in social work, qualifying in 1980 and gaining a management degree in 1998. In addition to his role as a trustee, Paul is the Safeguarding Lead for New Nation Church, Shrewsbury and also a trustee of Shrewsbury Youth For Christ, a charity supported by New Nation Church, Shrewsbury. From time to time, Paul leads our Sunday Gatherings, and volunteers in a variety of other ways in the life of the church.

Following retirement, Paul became involved with his local branch of U3A (University of The Third Age), which keeps the ageing brain active, and his role as the undergardener to Alison in their lovely back garden keeps him physcially active. Paul enjoys listening to music and, when the opportunity arises, riding in preserved buses, of which his younger brother owns several.
